Adjustable main jet kit for VM24 and VM26Will fit any of the above carburetors provided it uses hex type main jet (4/042) and a float bowl gasket identical to the one in pic 1.
The kit contains1 Custom-made float bowl
1 Float bowl gasket
4 Float bowl screws
1 Adapter with o-ring
1 Adjustable main jet stm-002
InstallationReplace the drain hose from your old carburettor and connect it to the corresponding nipple on the flhst-002 float bowl. Let the hose go through the loop of the float bowl so that it points upwards (picture 2). The hose will then act as 1) indicator of current fuel level 2) preparation for a future power jet connection. Replace the main jet with the o-ring and mount it finger-tight (...it's held in place by the o-ring). Before installing the float bowl smear a tad of oil or grease on the o-ring.
Set the adjusting screw to 2 turns. This corresponds to approx. a #350 main jet. With this setting the engine will likely run too rich. Drive to a halt and open the screw a little. Repeat the procedure until you find the spot where the motor starts to run clean. Now make sure you didn't screw it in too far by backing out the adjuster screw and go for another ride. The screw should be set in the spot where you just leave the rich condition. In other words exactly the same thing you do when optimizing the correct size of a fixed main jet.
The adjustable main jet has a flow range corresponding to mikuni hex (4/042) size #0 to #350. Approximate values below:
- 1/4 = #60
- 1/2 = #110
- 3/4 = #140
- 1 = #170
- 1 1/4 = #210
- 1 1/2 = #250
- 1 3/4 = #300
- 2 = #350
Please leave the transparent rubber cap on. It prevents the adjusting screw from unsetting and is still fully adjustable with the cap in situ.
